This sweet cherry soup is made with cherries, red wine, and enhanced with sour cream and heavy cream.

Instructions

How to prepare Hungarian cherry soup: In a large pot, combine cherries, cinnamon sticks, sugar, red wine, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and cook the cherries for 20-30 minutes. Remove the pot from the stove and stir in the almond extract.

In a separate bowl, mix a few tablespoons of heavy cream with sour cream until well combined. Gradually add the remaining heavy cream, stirring thoroughly. Incorporate this cream mixture into the cherry soup. Chill and serve the Hungarian cherry soup in individual bowls, garnishing with vanilla pods if desired. You may also drizzle additional sour cream over the soup before serving.
